Say what you will about Apple, its products, and its business approach, the impact Apple has had under Steve Job’s vision and leadership has undeniably impacted this generation.
Steve shaped culture, pioneered innovation, and changed the world we live in.
I recently read Steve’s 2005 commencement address to the graduating class of Stanford University. (If you have the time, you should read it or watch the video.) Steve shared some incredible glimpses into his life, history, and journey.
Born to an unwed mother.
Put up for adoption.
Fired from Apple a decade after he started it.
And yet, still… he changed the world.
So what’s our excuse? What’s holding us back from following our dreams and pursuing our passions?
I love what Apple said on their tribute page:
“Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built.”
We leave a legacy when we do what only we can do.
So the challenge remains: What is the thing that only you can do? When it comes to your family, to your work, to your gifts… What is it that only you can do?
Go do it.
And do it well.
“Your time is limited,
so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”
– Steve Jobs
