Blog Traffic Trends

October 18, 2011

Well, the results are in…

We polled all weekend, asking bloggers which day of the week is generally their best day in terms of traffic and comments, and over 125 people weighed in.

The results were mostly as I expected, although with a few small surprises. My unprofessional professional opinion on blog traffic trends is this:

• Monday – This is a toss-up day for me. Mondays can be slow since people are busy at work catching up from the weekend, or they can be high as blogs provide an escape from the busy-ness of work. It usually fluctuates between the two, though from our poll it’s obvious that many people often see it as their highest traffic day.

• Tuesday & Wednesday – Historically, I’ve always seen these days get the highest traffic, which is reiterated in our poll results.

• Thursday thru Sunday – Throwaway days. Okay, maybe not that bad, but typically there’s significantly lower traffic toward the end of the week and over the weekend.

Trends seem to show that posting earlier in the week is best.

Of course, your content and target audience make a big difference. Blog-reading trends among stay-at-home-moms will differ greatly from those of corporate professionals. It’s worth taking a look at your personal stats and determining your own best blogging day. Why does it matter? Posting your best material on your highest traffic day will yield maximum influence.

Our voices are meant not just to be heard, but to make an impact. Leverage your blog to make the biggest impact possible.

Do you save your best posts for your best days?
Why or why not?
