Welcome to Cross & Crown, Angie!

We’re excited to welcome Angelina “Angie” Devairakkam to the team as our new Marketing Success Coordinator. Angie brings over three years of experience in marketing strategy, project management, and client communication—along with a natural knack for content coordination and results-driven reporting. Get to know her a little better in this short interview.

1. Welcome to Cross & Crown, Angie! Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to pursue a career in marketing?

I have worked in marketing for four years. I previously worked at an agency that focused on marketing strategy for community colleges across the country. I graduated with a degree in business communications from Stevenson University. After taking some marketing courses, I was fascinated by the versatility and creative freedom that is involved. There are always opportunities to learn new trends, ideas, and techniques within the marketing world.

2. Your role as Marketing Success Coordinator involves a lot of moving parts—what aspect of the role are you most excited to dive into?

I am most excited for the opportunity to help manage workflow and processes to ensure success. I am also excited to bring my skill sets to the team and make a positive impact.

3. You’ve worked on everything from social media campaigns to content reporting—what’s one project you’re especially proud of?

I am especially proud of coordinating a Summer Email Campaign for three consecutive years for a district of Community Colleges (8) in California. The tasks in this project included coordinating email designs with the design team, client communication for content review/approval, sorting and filtering email contact lists, and scheduling the email distributions. The duration of the campaign was 12 weeks, which required sending out 2-3 emails a week for each college. I built great client relationships and smooth workflow processes that contributed to the success of the campaigns.

4. Outside of work, you enjoy reading, writing, and traveling—what’s something you’ve read or a place you’ve visited recently that inspired you?

I enjoy traveling to different places, and each place I’ve traveled has sparked some kind of inspiration. My most recent trip outside of the US was to Barbados. It is known to be one of the safest countries to visit. The culture, the people, and the breathtaking sceneries are truly one of a kind. It gave me a sense of peace. This inspired me to slow down, not only physically in my daily to-do’s, but also mentally, where I get lost in an overflow of thoughts from time to time.

5. What’s one fun fact about you that people might not expect?

A fun fact about me is that I am a huge football (NFL) fan.

6. If you weren’t working in marketing, what do you think you’d be doing instead?

My dream job up until I graduated college was to be a sports journalist. I was involved in the school newspaper all throughout high school and college, and I would mainly cover the sports. My expertise was in football, so that was my focus, but I enjoyed covering other sports as well. That allowed me to learn more and branch out. If I wasn’t in marketing, I would’ve been a journalist or blogger and cultivated my craft of writing.

7. You have a surprise day off with no plans—how are you spending it?

On my surprise day off, I would make it a self-care day. This requires sleeping in, going to the gym, and shopping. Treat myself to some good food and sweets, and watch a movie or a TV show while enjoying a cup of tea. Then I end my day with a face mask and some light reading.

8. What’s one lesson you’ve learned in your career that you’d pass along to someone new to the marketing world?

An impactful lesson I’ve learned being in the marketing world is, don’t be afraid to ask questions. No matter what role you are in, asking questions is important. There is no dumb question, and in order to fully understand what is needed to reach the expected goal, questions are a must. Communication is key, and that includes asking questions to gain more clarity, to learn something new, and to build relationships. In marketing, it’s important that everyone is on the same page, and that requires conversations and asking questions.

We’re looking forward to the perspective Angie brings to both our internal team and our client partnerships!
