Welcome to Cross & Crown, Emma!

Emma joins us as our new Digital Copywriter based outside of Pittsburgh, PA. She started her agency writing career over three years ago after leaving the classroom where, she taught middle school English for four years. Please join us in learning more about her in this short interview.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started in copywriting.

I started out as an English teacher and spent four amazing years in the classroom. During that time, I also took on freelance writing gigs to earn some extra income and build a portfolio. Initially, I didn’t intend to leave education; writing was just a passion of mine. However, when my son was born, the demanding schedule and the reality of being away from him for eight hours a day just wasn’t going to work for our family anymore.

So, I made the risky decision to leave teaching and dive into writing full-time. I fell in love with copywriting and have been happily immersed in this field for the past three years. Now, I get to do what I love while still being a present mom, and I couldn’t be happier with the path I’ve taken.

2. What are you most excited about in your new role?

I’m most excited about the opportunity to work with brands that make a positive impact on the world. Being part of such meaningful work is incredibly inspiring. It feels great to use my skills to support causes that align with my values and contribute to the greater good.

3. Can you share more about some of your hobbies or passions outside of work?

Outside of work, my biggest passion is being a mom to my energetic three-year-old boy, Finn. It may sound cliché, but being a mom truly is my greatest joy and the most fulfilling role I could have imagined. My days are filled with laughter, learning, and endless adventures with my little one, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

This summer I would really like to learn more about gardening, and I think that’s something Finn and I can enjoy together.

4. Tell us one fun fact about you that might surprise us!

I have a twin brother, Eli!

5. What is the one food you could not live without?

I could never live without cheese fries.

6. If you weren’t a copywriter, what do you think you’d be doing instead?

If I weren’t a copywriter today, I like to think my husband and I would be pursuing our shared passion for buying and flipping homes. He’s incredibly talented and handy (shout out to Dolan!), and together we’ve had some fun experiences with it. But, as much as we enjoy it, diving fully into real estate can be quite the financial commitment, especially in today’s market. So, for now, I’ll keep honing my copywriting skills while we keep our home-flipping dreams on the back burner.

7. What’s a memorable word of advice you’ve received in your life or career?

I tend to be more introverted, so this advice really resonated with me: “Fear can keep you from reaching your fullest potential.” I often hesitate, overthink, or question myself, which can hold me back from opportunities that push me out of my comfort zone. But understanding that fear is just a barrier, not a stop sign, has been incredibly empowering for me. Embracing this advice has encouraged me to push past my fears and take risks. It’s how I was able to make a career change and pursue my passion for writing.

8. Lastly, if you could give one piece of advice to aspiring copywriters, what would it be?

You’ll inevitably face situations that push you out of your comfort zone, whether tackling a project where you’re unsure of your abilities or dealing with a challenging account. The more comfortable you become with being uncomfortable, the better equipped you’ll be to navigate and thrive in them.

We look forward to watching Emma grow in her new role as Digital Copywriter with our Marketing Team!
